How Clean is Clean?

I have just read the most wonderful blog entitled "I Give My Friends a Messy House" by Mollie Hemingway where she delights us with the antics of friends who dont mind that their house is messy.

Being a mother of five children I can sure relate on messy houses.  Mine was never a model home with toys and clothes strewn all over the place.  But mine was the "go to" house.  Where all the kids came and felt comfortable and wanted to be at.

I remember growing up too when I wanted to be in my aunt's house more than home because my mom was a "neat freak" and my aunt just let it all hang out.  Grandma used to say "A messy house is a happy house." - and I always remembered that.  My most happy times were with the people who did not fret over the fact that a spilled a drink or dropped the chips on the floor.  So I raised my family the same way.

I always thought that once my children were grown and out of the house I would have the model home.  Everything in it's place.....but then the grandkids came along and I am back where I started.....letting them have the run of the place.....but very often I hear one of them say to me "Can we live here?"......and that puts a smile on my face.

So while I dont have the perfect home, I have a happy home....content to live life free of the worry of materials things....instead concentrating on the smiles, the laughter and well being mentally and spiritually of the people I love.

How was your life growing up? and do you fret over spilled milk?  I hope not because life is to short to worry about minor mishaps....

Hospitals Part 2

Wednesday was the most harrowing day for me....we arrived at the hospital at 7:30 because we had an 8:30 procedure for hubby, but apparently the doctor never faxed over the blood results and he insisted he did.....but anyway it postponed the procedure until 10:30.....we never got the results but the hospital went ahead and did their own tests.

He finally went into the OR and by 12:30 I saw the doctor who advised us all was well, no cancer, but he had some other problems but they were minor.  When he awakes in recovery he can get dressed and go home...see the doc in a week.

Sounds good?  Well it didnt go that way.....he was starving when he awoke - this was at 2:30 pm but they did feed him....we finally got discharged with pain killers and antibiotics ......got home by 3:30.......rested for an hour when the patient decided he could not urinate......called doctor, told to come into the office..............where a catheter was inserted.  (no need to get graphic, please google if you dont know what this is)  Ouch.....

This stays in all weekend....until Tuesday......not a very good thing.  So we are staying home this holiday weekend, resting and hopefully not too uncomfortable.  I dont know about any one else, but men do not make good patients......I gave birth to 5 children, had a gall bladder operation and a hysterectomy......I do know what pain is.....but this weekend we will be coddling the hubby because we all know men cannot take pain......imagine if they had to have the babies.....

On that note, at least the weather will be great.....and we do have a big deck.....so I will be doing alot of reading, relaxing and taking care of hubby.....Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Dont eat too much......and remember our men in service.....those who have left us, those currently in service (my nephew) and for all future vets......Bless you and thanks for keeping us safe.

Good food, good friends, good times

Hospitals

We are finally home and relaxing?  The day started early by arriving at the hospital by 7:30 because the procedure was scheduled for 8:30.....but that wasnt going to be because the internist never faxed over the blood results from last week....he said he did, but the hospital never got it...So they decided instead of waiting for the doctor to get in, they would take more blood....and in the middle of doing so, the internist arrived with the results.....ok,  this delayed the procedure until 10 am...........

I stayed in the waiting room....and couldnt find a decent cup of coffee so I drank my bottle of water and read until 12 noon.......not only being hungry but also had a whopping headache from caffeine withdrawal.  I finally opened my mouth and was allowed to go into the recovery room after speaking to the doctor...who said all went well.  Hubby was a little groggy, but we continued on where he got breakfast, got dressed and was signed out with papers and prescriptions.

But as luck would have it....all was not well.  There was a problem with hubby not being able to urinate....so back to the doctor where they inserted a catheter.....and all I can say is - good thing men dont have babies......I will be playing nurse for the next couple of days so I might not be blogging often.

He is resting (sleeping) now and it is quiet in the house so thought I would catch up on emails, etsy orders and blogging.....with my second cup of coffee to chase away the headache.....It's going to be some weekend......

I am back

It's Tuesday morning and I have been trying to get into Blogger since yesterday...finally did it; dont ask me what was wrong but whatever it was, I fixed it....but cant stay right now as I am on the way to hospital with hubby for a serious procedure.....so will check back later afterwards...think I will pick up a bottle of wine....too much stress this week already............

Lunch Anyone?

I was thinking the other day about what people do for lunch time when they are working.  Personally I find sitting with my co-workers in the staff room a relaxing way to have lunch and touch base with those people I dont get to talk to during the day.  You see, I work in a school office and there seems to be a constant barrage of parents and children all day long. So when that lunch hour rolls around...I breathe a sigh of relief and go upstairs with my "from home" lunch and just chill out.

I sometimes sit in front of the school when the weather is better than it has been....pretty soon it will probably be too hot to sit there, but meantime if the rain ever stops....

Some of my colleagues that this time to go shopping or do some walking.  To me, it is a time for relaxing, conversing and to slow down.

Every Wednesday is ordering day.......we make sure we order from wherever we all agree we would like to eat ..whether it is salads,

or paninis,

or sushi...

..it is our treat for the week....and since Wednesday is hump day....what a better way to push us over through the end of the week.......

So my question for this weekend is:  What do you do for lunch?

The Dash...

I came across this poem which was brought to my attention by a friend who said it was read at her father's funeral......and I just had to share.  Maybe because I am becoming of the age when these things matter to me....is youth wasted on the young?  Or is it that time has been flying by too fast?  Or it could be that a few years ago I almost lost my life and it made me think alot....Whatever it was, this poem sums it all up.....about what life is really about.  So hug and kiss your children, friends, family......before they are gone.

The Dash

rip.gif (1737 bytes)
The following is a poem by Linda Ellis © 1998.  Consider the implications for your own life's choices

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end.He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own; the cars .... the house... the cash.
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard ... are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left. (You could be at "dash mid-range")
If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more,
And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile...
Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spend your dash??

Goodreads Book......

I like giveaways.....and I try to enter as many as I can....Well, Goodreads.com has a continuous giveaway for books....by so many authors, by Goodreads authors.  I have found many a great author on the site.

I enter so many giveaways that I was pleasantly surprised by the email I received recently that said I won a book....I would have told you sooner but Blogger was down and out......

The book called......The Solacers by Arion Golmakani (check out his blog here) and he tells us that...

"Solacers tells the touching story of a 5-year old child’s search for family life and safety following the divorce of his parents in Iran during the 1960’s. The first child of a heartless father and a discarded mother is left to fend for himself on the streets of Mashhad, seeking food and shelter wherever he can. His lonely early years are an unbelievable tale of cruelty and betrayal on the part of nearly everyone who might be expected to help, save for one aunt who does her best to keep him from starving."

I plan to read this book and will post a review on my blog under the tab.....Book Review.....so keep in touch..

NOTHING

I am sitting here in front of my laptop trying to think of a subject to write about and I sit here with writer's block.  Now I know how authors feel.  It is such a lost feeling.  I am full of ideas....why cant I write about them.  Maybe it was the hectic weekend I had.....should I write about that?  ......or is it there is nothing to write about....

My grandson celebrated his 3rd birthday
It was Mother's Day
I got to see my children
I got to see my grandchildren......................there should be something I want to write about.

I did a search online for topics to blog about and came up with nothing......so I leave you with this note.....when there is nothing to write about, then write about nothing.  Nothing is good.....it is not controversial, it is not boring......everyone has a period where they can think of nothing......

Nothing doesnt get you into much trouble...I would like to say it doesnt get you into any trouble, but there have been people who have gotten into trouble by doing or saying nothing....so that doesnt work.

Nothing should be something you want to do when you have nothing to do......or want to do when you have something to do, but want to do nothing.

So on that note......what is your nothing?  Do you ever do nothing?  or wish you had nothing to do?  or do nothing even when you have something to do?

Think about it......and get back to me....would love to hear your comments on nothing.
